HEALER, STORYTELLER

[Tamara Fleming Photography]

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Poetry Therapist, I draw on evidence-based approaches including the healing power of words to help you to reach your your goals and build the life you envision. But first, we meet. We build trust. We chart a path. Then we get to work.

You can find me at Muse & Grace Mental Health Counseling, where we promote mental, physical and relational transformation. We are affiliated with Positive Psychology Associates, a mental health collective in Midtown Manhattan.

I hold a Master’s in Counseling for Mental Health & Wellness from New York University, and a Master's in Health Arts & Sciences from Goddard College in Vermont. I support clients coping with trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, stress, and improving family dynamics. My work incorporates EMDR and Brainspotting, two mind-body methods for healing trauma, as well as The Gottman Method for couples therapy. I also use Poetry Therapy, Transformative Language Arts and creative arts techniques, all of which are grounded in research and practice. Together, these approaches help you make meaning of how you think, feel, and relate. My sessions and workshops often weave in literature, lyrics, journaling, and reflection to deepen insight, connection, and growth.

I am also trained as a Health Coach to help non-clinical clients reach goals and adopt practical lifestyle changes. I develop and share healthy recipes that support mind-body wellness.

A longtime journalist and author, I've written and edited about mental and physical health, food, nutrition and holistic living for more than 25 years. My forthcoming coauthored book, Black Women Rising, is due out in March 2027. After completing my undergraduate degree in journalism at Michigan State University, I enjoyed a successful career as an editor and writer at a number of newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Detroit Free Press and Essence and Health magazines.

All of my training and work have led me to where I am today: a steward for your growth and transformation. No problem is too small or too big to help you find the best strategies for change, and the best ways to incorporate those strategies into your life. And there’s no better time to start than now‍ ‍
